Pavol Regenda had four assists, and Ethan Cardwell scored a hat trick and added an assist as the San Jose Sharks defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-1 in the preseason at T-Mobile Arena.
Regenda, a borderline player trying to make the opening night roster, was a standout player all night. Cardwell partnered with Regenda extremely well. Egor Afanasyev scored a goal, and Alex Nedeljkovic made 28 saves.
Alexander Holtz scored for the Golden Knights, and Adin Hill made 15 saves.
Regenda and Cardwell were the best players every time they stepped onto the ice for the San Jose Sharks. Both players are fighting to make the opening night roster, and tonight’s performance could give GM Mike Grier something to consider.

“We just worked hard tonight,” Cardwell said. “We came in there with an attitude, [of] we’re going to get pucks deep, get pucks behind them, and skate as hard as we can to win loose pucks and recover them and get to the net. Good things might happen.”
Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson both skated well, but neither factored in on the scoresheet in the second-to-last preseason game. Quentin Musty was also on the line of Misa, along with Will Smith, but the line was quiet for most of the night.
Collin Graf, Ty Dellandra, and Timothy Liljegren wore an ‘A’ on their jersey. For Graf, that could mean he will start the season in the NHL.
Cardwell gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead just 1:18 into the first period. After a steal and lead pass by Pavol Regenda, Cardwell used a toe-drag shot to beat Hill over the blocker.

Afanasyev made it 2-0 Sharks with a power-play goal at 16:21 of the second period. Regenda fed a pass from the left circle to a wide-open Afanasyev at the right circle for the one-timer goal.
Cardwell scored his second goal of the game at 6:48 of the third period. Regenda forechecked a puck and found Cardwell for the one-timer that beat Hill by the blocker.
Holtz shot from the point at 7:11 and beat Nedeljkovic over the glove to make it 3-1.
