Goaltender Carter Hart is nearing a return to the NHL, and it appears one of the strongest Western Conference contenders is set to land him.
Bleacher Report’s Frank Seravalli reported that the Vegas Golden Knights and Hart are closing in on a contract expected to carry a two-year term at $2 million per season.

“It certainly seems like the Vegas Golden Knights are the frontrunner for Carter Hart’s services,” Seravalli said. “He is eligible to sign a contract on Wednesday, October 1st. … So, keep an eye on Carter Hart and the Vegas Golden Knights.
“It’s probably likely to be a two-year deal. AAV still to be determined, but they would seem to be the frontrunner at this point in time, unless another team steps up with interest over the next 24 hours.”
Hart officially became eligible to sign on Wednesday following his reinstatement by the NHL, though his deal cannot be registered until mid-October to allow for visa and relocation processing.

The 27-year-old last played for the Philadelphia Flyers, who drafted him 48th overall in 2016, and his last deal carried a $3.98 million cap hit.
Hart has a career record of 96–93–29 across six NHL seasons, all of them with the Flyers. The netminder has not played in the league since January 2024, when he stepped away while facing sexual assault charges tied to the 2018 Canadian World Junior team.
Harter was acquitted in July alongside four other players, and instead of joining another team outside of the NHL during the suspension, he decided to train on his own.

Hart would join a Golden Knights tandem anchored by Adin Hill, with Akira Schmid also on the roster as Hill’s current backup.
Vegas, however, is $7.6 million over the cap, so they will need to clear a lot of money before the start of the regular season if they want to complete Hart’s signing.
Seravalli noted that the Golden Knights had explored other goaltending options earlier in the offseason but found no suitable additions, with one of the few available goalies in former Utah Mammoth netminder Connor Ingram getting traded to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.
