Nielsen was recalled from AHL Colorado on Saturday, according to Brennan Vogt of Hockey Mountain High.
Nielsen played in the Vancouver system last season, posting 15 goals and 28 points in 67 regular-season contests for AHL Abbotsford. He will likely be sent back to AHL Colorado soon, as the Avalanche recalled him to fill out their roster for the preseason finale against Dallas.
