The Detroit Red Wings announced that they’d bring back fan favorite Trevor Thompson to the broadcast for the 2025-26 season; it was announced in May that he wouldn’t be returning, but FanDuel Sports Network has shifted priorities after receiving backlash.
Detroit Red Wings fans can rejoice as fan favorite Trevor Thompson has been brought back to the broadcast for the 2025-26 season. It was announced on May 7th, 2025, that Thompson wouldn’t be returning to FanDuel Sports Network after his position was eliminated.
Instead, it seems the Network has had a change of heart, and he rejoins the team. Thompson had recently covered both the Tigers and Red Wings before he was removed.
FanDuel would release a statement on the update of Thompson’s status:
«As the Red Wings celebrate 100 years of Hockeytown, we’re proud to deliver coverage worthy of the moment,» said Jay Rothman, FanDuel Sports Network’s Vice President of Production overseeing live NHL coverage. «With cutting-edge production and a powerhouse broadcast team- featuring the iconic duo of Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond- this season promises to be a tribute to tradition, talent, and the enduring spirit of Hockeytown.»
Fans are elated with the news, as Trevor Thompson once again will be contributing to the Red Wings future in the best way he can.
Trevor Thompson Joins The Team for the Centennial Season
Thompson’s original tenure with his last position was 25 years, as he was a part of the broadcast team, when the RSN was owned by Fox, Bally, and now Fan Duel.
This kind of move is a victory for Red Wings fans, as they’ll have Thompson to complement Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels.
The RSN’s move was suspicious as its firing of the tenured broadcaster was the backdrop to the Network’s subscription service saw gains while mass layoffs and firings occurred.
Just another cost-cutting measure to keep the bottom line fat, and NHL fans unhappy.
Is FanDuel coming to its senses? We’ll never know.
