Macklin Celebrini returned to the San Jose Sharks lineup as they fell to the Utah Mammoth 6-4 in their final preseason game on Saturday.

Celebrini looked like he hadn’t missed a beat as the center was flying around the ice as if it were a game 7 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The top center finished with one assist while playing on a line with Will Smith and Philipp Kurashev.

Mikhail Sergachev, Dylan Guenther, Andrew Agozzino, Kailer Yamamoto, and Clayton Keller all scored for the Mammoth. Karel Vejmelka made nine saves in the contest.

Adam Gaudette and Tyler Toffoli each had a goal and an assist for the San Jose Sharks. Smith and Barclay Goodrow also scored, and Yaroslav Askarov made 18 saves.

Sam Dickinson played in the game after playing against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday. The 19-year-old could have his fate sealed for where he will play in the 25-26 season following tonight’s game.

The Sharks were down 4-1 during the game, but a furious second period filled with three straight goals led the Sharks back to a 4-4 game. Unfortunately for the Sharks, their comeback fell short as a strong Mammoth team showed their development as a unit in the third period.

Michael Misa didn’t play for the second straight night. Roster cutdowns across the entire NHL are likely to happen tomorrow, with NHL rosters needing to be finalized by Oct. 6.

Gaudette gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 2:55 of the first period. Gaudette drove the net and used his backhand to get the puck through Vejmelka.

Sergachev tied the game at one at 7:03 after his wrist shot from the left point got through Askarov.

Guenther gave the Mammoth a 2-1 lead with a power play goal at 8:59. Sergachev fed Guenther from center point to the top of the left circle, and his one-timer beat Askarov over the glove.

Agozzino pushed the Mammoth’s lead to 3-1 at 11:46. JJ Peterka’s shot rebounded off the right pad of Askarov right to Agozzino for the tap-in.

Yamamoto scored the Mammoth’s fourth straight goal to make it 4-1 at 13:36. Yamamoto tipped Nate Schmidt’s pass in front past the left pad of Askarov.

Toffoli made it 4-2 1:53 into the second period for the Sharks. After walking down the left wing, Toffoli ripped a shot to the top right corner over Vejmelka.

Goodrow cut it to 4-3 at 4:16 after Gaudette fed a pass in front on a two-on-one. Goodrow tapped the puck in past the right pad of Vejmelka.

Smith tied the game 4-4 with a power play goal at 13:39. Celebrini fed Smith a beautiful pass for the one-timer into the open net.

Keller gave the Mammoth a 5-4 lead at 4:55 of the third period. Killer’s shot from the right point went by the glove of Askarov, who was heavily screened.

Brandon Tanev poked a puck out of the defensive zone and went to the backhand to beat Askarov to make it 6-4 at 11:11.
