GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – The Colorado Mesa Hockey Team shutout the number two ranked team in the country, taking down the Air Force Falcons Team 2-0.
After opening their season with a loss on the road to the Falcons, the Mavs responded with a statement performance.
Both teams defenses stood strong through the first two periods, not allowing a goal, and headed into the 3rd tied 0-0.
CMU was the first to get a puck in net when the Colorado Springs Native Marcus Ray connected on a power play to make it 1-0 a little over a minute into the period.
CMU also delivered the dagger with 1:24 on the clock, doubling their lead to 2-0 when Mason Ripley scored to effectively lock up the win.
The CMU Goaltender John Hickam also had a massive hand in the win, recording his first career shutout, and blocking all 39 Air Force shots on goal.
The Mavericks will stay on the road, heading south to Arizona to take on Grand Canyon University, Park University Gilbert, and Arizona State, before returning the Western Slope for their home opener, hosting UCCS October 17th and 18th.
