The San Jose Sharks have traded Carl Grundstrom and Artem Guryev to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for the contract of Ryan Ellis.

Ellis hasn’t played a game since November 2021 due to an injury. Similar to Carey Price and Logan Couture, the Sharks will use their cap hits as assets for more flexibility.
Ellis carries a $6.25 million cap hit through the 26-27 NHL season.
This move also begins the contract cutdown the San Jose Sharks need to do if they plan on keeping top prospects Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson in the NHL this season.

In 56 games with the Sharks last season, Grundstrom had three goals and six assists. Grundstrom has been in the middle of a competition during Sharks training camp for a bottom-six forward role.
Pavol Regenda and Ty Dellandrea’s strong play likely pushed the winger out of a roster spot. Instead of placing the 27-year-old on waivers, the Sharks are at least able to recoup some assets.
Guryev never played a game for the Sharks. He spent the 24-25 season in the ECHL with the Sharks’ affiliate team, the Wichita Thunder.
