After dominating the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup last August, Marcus Nordmark now needs to live up to expectations in the U20 Nationell. Playing for Djurgårdens, the prospect is viewed as a potential top-20 pick for the 2026 NHL Draft. Here’s a scouting report on Marcus Nordmark, a right winger in Swedish junior hockey.
2026 NHL Draft Scouting Report: Marcus Nordmark
In six games so far, Marcus Nordmark has collected 3 goals and 6 assists, averaging 20 minutes and 34 seconds of ice time. The prospect is a key contributor on both special teams, seeing time on the top power-play unit and the second penalty kill. He’s quite a complete player overall, but his primary strength is his vision — which makes him an outstanding playmaker.
All of his assists so far have been primary assists. The left-shot forward has an exceptional ability to find or create cross-ice passing lanes. It’s not uncommon for his plays to catch teammates off guard — they often freeze when the puck suddenly lands on their stick from an impossible angle. Because of this, his current point totals are likely an understatement. With more alert linemates, his production could easily be higher.
Correctables Flaws
Questions can be raised about his finishing instincts, as only 18 of his 42 shot attempts have hit the target. His shot isn’t weak by any means, and he’s capable of getting himself into scoring positions — his 17 recorded scoring chances prove that. However, Nordmark tends to operate from the perimeter. He’s skilled at carrying the puck, deking defenders, gaining zone entries, and maneuvering in the offensive zone, but he does so mostly from the outside. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 183 pounds, one might expect him to attack the middle more often, but that simply isn’t his style.
Nordmark is more of a cerebral player — he prefers to dictate the play from afar, using quick reads and reactions to put opponents on their heels. The same applies defensively, as his active stick allows him to intercept passes and disrupt plays. Still, if he engaged more physically, his overall effectiveness would likely improve. That said, it’s hard to criticize him too much when you see that he maintains an even ratio between puck losses and recoveries. Additionally, he’s been on the ice for 11 goals scored by his team compared to just 5 against. Even so, you’re left wanting a bit more bite and urgency in his overall compete level.
Projected Draft Ranking for Marcus Nordmark – 2026 NHL Draft
I fully understand what many scouts and observers see in Marcus Nordmark. The prospect is smart, skates adequately, has a solid frame, and can create plays seemingly out of nothing. His shot and physical involvement remain areas for improvement, but not to the extent that they’ll hurt his draft stock in a major way. For now, I expect him to be selected somewhere in the top 20 of the 2026 NHL Draft. We’ll see if that changes as the season unfolds — it’s still very early.
