The 22-year-old center forced his way onto the roster by leading the Rangers in preseason scoring with six points (two goals, four assists). Originally projected to start the year in Hartford, Laba’s blend of speed, strength, and defensive maturity convinced new coach Mike Sullivan and team president Chris Drury that he’s ready for NHL ice time now.
