Quinn Hughes is due for an extension in two seasons as his contract comes to an end with the Vancouver Canucks, while many believe his extension will cause problems, Craig Button put those rumours to bed stating Hughes will not be distracted.Button believes Hughes is determined to win and that’s at the forefront of his mind not his next contract.

“National Hockey League insider Jeff Marek, who was the guest on their show, didn’t say if Quinn Hughes could get $20 million, but did add that these deals are going to affect the Canucks captain and drive up his price, whether it be in talks with Vancouver next summer or if he decides to hit the open market in the summer of 2027.”-Jaxon

Button knows Quinn Hughes is only focused on winning with the Vancouver Canucks.

Antonio Losada of Athlon Sports reported on Craig Button’s statements regarding Hughes, while Button doesn’t always hit the mark with his comments, this one can offer a little comfort to Canucks fans.

“«Anybody that wants to suggest that Quinn Hughes is going to be a distraction when his contract is up in two years, I’m not buying it . He’s the captain. He cares about winning. He’s focused on helping this team.»-Button

When asked about the rumours that Hughes will leave Vancouver to join forces with his brothers in New Jersey, Button also had a quick but determined answer.

“«Quinn Hughes is not going to let that seep into any type of drama for the Vancouver Canucks this season.»-Button

Quinn Hughes also doubled down on this statement when asked during training camp about what is going in his mind from Sportsnet.

“That’s probably my biggest stress, where I put so much pressure on myself making sure that I do everything that I’m supposed to do for the team. I never think I’m good enough, so that’s always driving me.»-Hughes

His focus on his game is emphasized by him and others, and two years is a long way away. There is almost no point in leaning to one side or the other whether Hughes will leave or stay a Canuck forever. Hughes is focused on now and so should the rest of the fanbase.
