SEATTLE — Spokane Chiefs star Berkly Catton will start his 2025-26 season with the Seattle Kraken, but will remain eligible to return to Spokane for the time being.
The Kraken announced this week that the 19-year-old Saskatoon native made the initial 23-man roster and will make his NHL regular-season debut when Seattle hosts Anaheim on Thursday.

Catton appeared in five of six preseason games, recording one point on a goal against Calgary in Seattle’s 2-1 shootout loss on Sept. 29.
Under NHL rules, Catton can play up to nine regular-season games before officially starting his rookie contract with Seattle. If he plays 10 or more, he will no longer be eligible to return to Spokane. Should the Kraken front office send him back to the Lilac City, Catton’s rookie contract will slide a year. He won’t be old enough to join Seattle’s AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, until next season.
Catton was drafted eighth overall by Seattle in the 2024 NHL Draft.
Last season, Catton led the Chiefs to the Western Hockey League championship series, where they fell to Medicine Hat four games to one. He ranked third in the WHL with 109 points, tallying 71 assists and 38 goals in just 57 games.
The Chiefs are 2-3 through five games this season and return to the ice Friday to host Wenatchee at 7 p.m.
Catton’s NHL debut is set for 7 p.m. Thursday and will be available on ESPN+ and the Kraken Hockey Network.
