Rick Tocchet Calls Out Flyers Defensemen in a Way That Takes Fans Right Back to His Vancouver Canuck

Rich Tocchet, head coach of the Vancouver Canucks last season, now head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers is once again not too happy with his team, it’s a tale of the same story but with different colours, where his defensemen were subpar to say the least during preseason.
This isn’t the first time Tocchet dealt with defensemen issues, as he has lots of experience to draw from years past in Vancouver.
“There’s no question that the Vancouver Canucks are looking for help on the blue line, especially in their top-four, which was mentioned recently. It’s never easy to make trades at this time of year because teams are still trying to figure out where they’re at and want to be patient with their respective rosters to allow for chemistry to build and to potentially be in a good position in the standings by American Thanksgiving.”-Jaxon
Lack of depth of the defense core remains a major problem for the Vancouver Canucks.
NHL Watcher on X noticed the frustration growing with Rick Tocchet regarding his blue line heading into the season.
Friedman on 32TP: “You could tell Tocchet, he thought there was a lot of guys who didn’t have great preseasons, especially on the blueline, he said it. You can tell by the look on his face, he was like what is going on here at certain guys”
Many people decided to chime in on the comment and noticed that it was mostly due to the 5th and 6th slots.
Tocchet was referring to the Dmen battling for the bottom two spots and he was right they all looked horrible at times, and imo the ones that actually looked decent got sent to the minors (Andrae) or waived (Gilbert)
This doesn’t come as much of surprise as the Flyers are not considered to be a good team this season. It seems as though Tocchet just can’t catch a break with bad defensemen, and he will have another full year of the same issues.
