COLUMBUS, Ohio — Veteran forward Cam Atkinson is set to sign a one-day contract that allows him to retire with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the club announced Wednesday.

The club will honor Atkinson before their game against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, Oct. 16.

The 36-year-old player has spent 13 years with the National Hockey League, 10 of those with the Blue Jackets from 2011-2021. He scored 213 goals and 189 assists for 402 points throughout his time in Columbus.

Atkinson also ranked among the NHL’s all-time leaders in several statistical categories, including second in points and goals. He collected six career hat tricks, the most in team history, and remains the Blue Jackets’ all-time leader in goals, assists and points in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He also represented the Blue Jackets at two NHL All-Star Games in 2017 and 2019 and was named to their Quarter-Century Team, according to the club.

The Connecticut native was selected by the Blue Jackets in the sixth round, 157th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft. He made his professional debut on Oct. 7, 2011, registering 253-236-489 and 194 penalty minutes in 809 career games with the Blue Jackets, Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning.
