A new ECHL season has arrived, and the Savannah Ghost Pirates are wasting no time getting to work. The team opened a 10-day training camp this week at Enmarket Arena, gearing up for its fourth season in the Hostess City. For veteran forward Logan Drevitch, returning to Savannah feels like coming home. The 28-year-old is the only player in franchise history to sign a contract in all four seasons.“The fans here are unbelievable. There’s no place I’d rather be,” Drevitch said. “For my wife and I, this is our second home now. Can’t wait for the season to get going.”Drevitch played in every game last season, leading Savannah with 40 assists. He’s the Ghost Pirates’ all-time leader in games played (210), assists and total points, but says the focus this year is simple — finally breaking through to the Kelly Cup Playoffs.“This has to be our year,” Drevitch said. “Three years in a row we’ve missed the playoffs. With the crowd we have and the talent in that room, the standard is to be in the playoffs and compete for a championship.”Among the new faces in camp is Matt Koopman, who joins the Ghost Pirates after two full professional seasons with the Wheeling Nailers. Koopman said playing in an organization affiliated with the Florida Panthers, last season’s Stanley Cup champions, brings added motivation.“When you see the success they’ve had, it trickles down,” Koopman said. “Our goal is to make the playoffs and eventually bring a championship to Savannah.”Also entering his first full professional season is defenseman Michael Suda, who joined Savannah late last spring after finishing his collegiate career at Cornell.“It was good to get a few games in last year,” Suda said. “I feel more comfortable now and ready to help this team win. We’ve got the talent — we just have to outwork teams every night.”The Ghost Pirates’ training camp runs for 10 days. Savannah will play two preseason games — October 9 in Jacksonville against the Icemen at Community First Igloo and October 11 at Enmarket Arena against the Greensboro Gargoyles.

SAVANNAH, Ga. —

The 28-year-old is the only player in franchise history to sign a contract in all four seasons.

“The fans here are unbelievable. There’s no place I’d rather be,” Drevitch said. “For my wife and I, this is our second home now. Can’t wait for the season to get going.”

Drevitch played in every game last season, leading Savannah with 40 assists. He’s the Ghost Pirates’ all-time leader in games played (210), assists and total points, but says the focus this year is simple — finally breaking through to the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

“This has to be our year,” Drevitch said. “Three years in a row we’ve missed the playoffs. With the crowd we have and the talent in that room, the standard is to be in the playoffs and compete for a championship.”

Among the new faces in camp is Matt Koopman, who joins the Ghost Pirates after two full professional seasons with the Wheeling Nailers. Koopman said playing in an organization affiliated with the Florida Panthers, last season’s Stanley Cup champions, brings added motivation.

“When you see the success they’ve had, it trickles down,” Koopman said. “Our goal is to make the playoffs and eventually bring a championship to Savannah.”

Also entering his first full professional season is defenseman Michael Suda, who joined Savannah late last spring after finishing his collegiate career at Cornell.

“It was good to get a few games in last year,” Suda said. “I feel more comfortable now and ready to help this team win. We’ve got the talent — we just have to outwork teams every night.”

The Ghost Pirates’ training camp runs for 10 days. Savannah will play two preseason games — October 9 in Jacksonville against the Icemen at Community First Igloo and October 11 at Enmarket Arena against the Greensboro Gargoyles.
