The always very polarizing Patrik Laine didn’t take long before finding himself at the center of a controversial sequence in this 2025-26 season with the Canadiens.
Laine, who needs to show a higher level of effort at 5-on-5, has already made a move that represents exactly what Martin St-Louis does NOT want to see.
Already a controversial scene involving Patrik Laine
Instead of taking 2-3 more strides, instead of working a little harder, Laine made the (very bad) decision to hook a Maple Leafs player right in the middle of the first period.

Fortunately, this very bad penalty ultimately had no consequences for Martin St-Louis’ squad, thanks to Oliver Kapanen!

Back to Laine – I’m really curious to see how he responds after that disappointing play in the first period, because I am 100% certain Martin St-Louis will be having a word with him.
He needs to get the message and give more at even strength.
