COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that forward Cam Atkinson will sign a one-day contract to officially retire as a member of the team on October 16.
Atkinson, 36, will be honored before the Blue Jackets’ home game against the Colorado Avalanche at Nationwide Arena.
Atkinson spent 10 of his 13 NHL seasons in Columbus, where he became one of the most accomplished players in franchise history.
He ranks second all-time in goals (213) and points (402) and represented the Blue Jackets at the NHL All-Star Games in 2017 and 2019.
Atkinson recorded six career hat tricks. the most in team history and remains the club’s all-time leader in postseason scoring.
Drafted in the sixth round in 2008, the Connecticut native leaves behind a legacy as one of the Blue Jackets’ most beloved and productive players.
