Vegas Golden Knights News & Notes:

After opening at home last night against the Los Angeles Kings, the Golden Knights travel to San Jose for the Sharks’ opener tonight at the SAP Center. Vegas will try to improve on its road record from a year ago, when Vegas had the ninth-best record despite winning the Pacific Division with 110 points.

San Jose Sharks News & Notes:

The Sharks finished with the worst record in the NHL last season. San Jose ended up with the 2nd overall pick in the NHL Draft and selected Michael Misa. Misa and fellow 1st round pick Sam Dickinson both made the Sharks roster to begin the season. The two teenagers will have development plans that will likely see them brought along slowly, with the option of being returned to their Junior Hockey clubs if the Sharks don’t believe they’re ready to stick at the NHL level.

Players To Watch:

Vegas Golden Knights

Jack Eichel has agreed to an 8-year, $108 million contract extension, with an AAV of $13.5 million per year, to keep the franchise superstar in Vegas. Eichel has been as advertised since coming over in the trade from Buffalo and is a key piece of a Golden Knights roster that will challenge for a Stanley Cup again this season.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks are one of the youngest teams in the NHL and have a lot of growth to do before they become a legitimate playoff contender, but there may not be a better group of young potential NHL stars than San Jose, led by Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, William Eklund, and Michael Misa.
