Here are the best prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday’s 14-game NHL slate as the rest of the league begins the new season.
The new NHL season enters its third day as a 14-game slate sees nearly the entire league take the ice. There are plenty of matchups to keep an eye on, including a handful of playoff rematches, and there are even more player prop bets to consider for bettors looking to get in on the action.
Here are three of the best NHL player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday, October 9.
Best NHL prop bets
Kirill Kaprizov 4+ shots on goal (+110)
The $136 million man himself, Kirill Kaprizov became the highest-paid player in NHL history over the offseason. Surely thrilled with his mountain of cash, the Wild’s top talent enters the new year without the pressure of an upcoming extension on his mind. While that may translate to complacence for some, Kaprizov isn’t a player to worry about in that regard. He’s a top-10 player in this league and that’s arguably underselling his abilities. The 28-year-old averaged over 3.5 shots on goal per game last season during an injury-shortened campaign and tallied at least four shots in 23 of 47 contests. With plus value, I like his odds to start the season strong with an aggressive showing.
Jack Hughes 4+ shots on goal (+115)
The Devils’ top forward missed the end of the season and the playoffs in 2024-25, but he’s back and healthy once more. When on the ice, Jack Hughes is a true difference-maker with over a point per game and a constant presence opponents must account for. He averaged 3.69 shots per game last year when healthy and logged four shots or more in 27 of 62 appearances. With a full offseason to recover and the need to step up in a tough matchup with the Hurricanes, who bounced New Jersey from the postseason last time they played, Hughes should perform in a key role on Thursday.
Filip Gustavsson over 24.5 saves (-130)
Going back to the matchup between the Wild and the Blues, goaltender Filip Gustavsson’s saves prop holds some value in this game. The veteran posted a quality campaign last year with a 2.56 GAA and .914 SV%, and he’s positioned to start the season strong against St. Louis. Gustavsoon averaged 26.4 saves per night in 2024-25 and will have plenty of shot attempts launched his way on Thursday night. He went over this 24.5-save line in 40 of 64 contests last year, so I’m banking on him to do so again as the Wild begin their new campaign.
