Calgary Flames News & Notes:

The Flames were given the difficult task of starting the season with back-to-back road games against Edmonton and Vancouver before returning to Calgary for their home opener on October 11 against the St. Louis Blues.

Vancouver Canucks News & Notes:

The Canucks hope the turmoil of last season is behind them as they kick off the 2025-26 season at home tonight against the Calgary Flames. JT Miller is now the captain in New York, Thatcher Demko and Quinn Hughes are healthy, and Elias Pettersson is poised for a bounce-back season. The addition of Evander Kane will provide some toughness, grit, and scoring touch, and can only help the Canucks with their reputation as a soft team.

Players To Watch:

Calgary Flames

The main question of Flames fans going into the season is how potential superstar teenager Zayne Parekh will be utilized. How many games will he play? Will they monitor his minutes? Time will tell but if Parekh has a breakout season similar to Lane Hutson in Montreal a year ago, it will be very difficult to have him watching games from the sidelines.

Vancouver Canucks

Elias Pettersson has to get back to the player he was two years ago for the Canucks to be a real threat in the playoffs. After three straight 30+ goal seasons, the 26-year-old center dropped to 15 goals and 30 assists last year. The Sundscall, Sweden native, needs a huge bounce back season and may be on the right track with a goal, an assist, and eight hits in three preseason games.
