The Red Wings gear up for a 2025-26 season that many hope will be an improvement after what was another frustrating campaign last year. The team returns most of its core, featuring Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, and captain Dylan Larkin, along with some new faces. The most notable addition was that of goaltender John Gibson, who is expected to bring some stability between the pipes.
There are some expectations that the team should be able to at least challenge for a playoff spot, if not more. However, Detroit needs to find consistency if it wants to end the team’s nine-year playoff drought.
The Red Wings take on a Maple Leafs team that is poised to make another run to the postseason, despite some personnel changes. Gone is the dynamic playmaker Mitch Marner, but Auston Matthews, William Nylander and John Tavares lead a talented core into the new campaign.
Prior to facing Toronto, the Red Wings will open up their new campaign on Thursday night against the Montreal Canadiens.
