Winnipeg Jets

Forward Jonathan Toews participated in the team’s morning skate and will play as the Jets get open their season against the Winnipeg Jets, according to team reporter Mitchell Clinton.

Toews, 37, “tweaked something” during the team’s 3-2 pre-season loss to the Minnesota Wild on Sept. 30 and his availability for the season opener was in question.

The 6-foot-2 centre skated on the second line with Gustav Nyquist and Nikita Chibrikov.

Toews, a Winnipeg native, joined the club in the off-season after missing two seasons due to health issues.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators are projected to use these line when they open the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday:

Carolina Hurricanes

Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov will not be available on Thursday when the Hurricanes open their season against the New Jersey Devils.

Rod Brind’Amour says goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov will not be available tonight, and he’ll be evaluated again tomorrow.

Kochetkov, 26, has not been available to practice this week with a undisclosed injury.

The 6-foot-3 netminder went 27-16-3 last season with a 2.60 GAA and an .898 save percentage.

Frederik Andersen will be in net against the Devils on Thursday.

Andersen only appeared in 22 games last season as he recovered from injury, going 13-8-1 with a 2.50 GAA and an .899 save percentage.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Jet Greaves will get the start in net when the Blue Jackets open their season against the Nashville Predators.

#CBJ head coach Dean Evason just met with the media and said Jet Greaves will start the season opener in net tonight at Nashville.

Both goalies played well in preseason, Evason said, but Greaves gets the nod for game one.

Greaves, 24, made 11 appearances last season and went 7-2-2 with two shutouts.

Florida Panthers

Sergei Bobrovsky will be between the pipes when the Panthers take on the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

Bobrovsky allowed two goals on 19 shots in the Panthers season-opening win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old netminder went 33-19-2 last season with a .906 save percentage and 2.44 GAA.

Minnesota Wild

Defenceman Jonas Brodin won’t be available on Thursday when the Wild open their season against the St. Louis Blues, head coach John Hynes confirmed.

Also, Hunter Haight will make his NHL debut at St. Louis. Danila Yurov won’t play.

Brodin, 32, had surgery to correct an upper-body injury in the off-season and didn’t participate in the pre-season.

The 6-foot-2 left-shot defenceman had four goals and 20 points in 50 games last season while averaging 22:57 of ice time.

New Jersey Devils

Jacob Markstrom is expected to get the start in net on Thursday when the Devils open the season against the Carolina Hurricanes, according to team reporter Amanda Stein.

Markstrom, 35, had a 26-16-6 record in his first season with the Devils last year with a .900 save percentage and 2.50 GAA.

New York Rangers

Head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that Igor Shesterkin will get the start in net when the Rangers take on the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

Shesterkin, 29, allowed a goal on 29 shots when the Rangers fell 3-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins to open the season on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-1 netminder had a 27-29-5 record last season with a .905 save percentage and 2.86 GAA.

Philadelphia Flyers

Dan Vladar will be in the Flyers net on Thursday when they open the season against the Florida Panthers.

Vladar, 28, joined the Flyers as an unrestricted free agent in the off-season on a two-year, $6.7 million deal.

The 6-foot-5 netminder had a 12-11-4 record with the Calgary Flames last season with a 2.80 GAA and an .898 save percentage.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Forward Bryan Rust will not be available to the Penguins on Thursday when they take on the New York Islanders, head coach Dan Muse confirmed.

Rust, 33, sustained an lower-body injury during practice on Oct. 2 and was originally given a two-week timeline for his return.

He was a full participant in the team’s optional morning skate on Thursday but isn’t ready to play.

The 5-foot-11 winger recorded 31 goals and 65 points in 71 games with the Penguins last season.

Additionally, Muse confirmed that Tristan Jarry will get the start in net against the Islanders.

Dan Muse said Tristan Jarry starts the home opener tonight: “I think it’s so early, we just want to get everybody going, get different guys going.” The Penguins Head Coach added that Jarry was trending in “a really good direction” at the end of training camp.

San Jose Sharks

Alex Nedeljkovic confirmed he will make his Sharks debut when his team takes on the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.

Nedeljkovic, 29, was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 1 in exchange for a 2028 third-round draft pick.

The 6-foot netminder went 14-15-5 last season with a 3.12 GAA and an .894 save percentage in Pittsburgh.

Additionally, rookies Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson, as well as defenceman Vincent Desharnais and goaltender Yaroslav Askarov stayed out late after practice and are not expected to play in the team’s season opener.

Jordan Binnington is expected to get the start when the Blues open the season against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, according to Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic.

Binnington, 32, had a 28-22-5 record last season with a 2.59 GAA and .900 save percentage.

Joey Daccord was the first goaltender off the ice during the Kraken’s pre-game skate, indicating he’ll be the starting goaltender when they open the season against the Ducks, according to Kate Shefte of the Seattle Times.

Andrei Vasilevskiy will be in net on Thursday when the Lightning open the season against the Ottawa Senators, confirmed head coach Jon Cooper.

Vasilevskiy, 31, went 38-20-5 last season with a .921 save percentage and 2.18 GAA as he finished second in Vezina Trophy voting.

Utah Mammoth

Karel Vejmelka was the first goaltender off the ice during Thursday’s pre-game skate, indicating that he will start in the season opener against the Colorado Avalanche, according to Cole Bagley of KSL Sports.

Vejmelka is the first goaltender off the ice for the Mammoth.
