Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres recalled forward Josh Dunne from the AHL’s Rochester Americans on Friday.
The move happens after forward Josh Norris left Thursday’s 4-0 season-opening loss to the New York Rangers late in the third period with an injury.
“He didn’t finish the game so I’m going to say that’s not a good sign,” head coach Lindy Ruff said on Thursday night.
Norris, 26, was acquired by the Sabres, along with defenceman Jacob Bernard-Docker, from the Ottawa Senators prior to last year’s trade deadline in exchange for forward Dylan Cozens, defenceman Dennis Gilbert, and a draft pick.
The 6-foot-2 centre was limited to only three games with the Sabres last season after sustaining a mid-body injury.
He had 21 goals and 35 points in 56 games last season split between the Senators and Sabres.
Additionally, missed Thursday’s season opener after he was hospitalized after taking a puck to the face during Wednesday’s practice.
Ruff told reporters that he sustained a cut that “turned into something bigger” but he is expected to be discharged on Friday.
Benson recorded 10 goals and 28 points in 75 games with the Sabres last season.
