The NHL has suspended Jonathan Drouin for one game for his actions late in the Pittsburgh Penguins‘ 4-3 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday at PPG Paints Arena.

Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry evaded a few bodies to make a game-saving save at 19:45 of the third period. Tempers flared, and the normally clean Jonathan Drouin fed Penguins forward Connor Dewar a cross-check in the face.

Dewar went down, and referees gave Drouin a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct.

Despite being shorthanded for the final 15 seconds, the Islanders still generated a breakaway chance in the waning moments.

Friday morning, Drouin had a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety. It is Drouin’s first suspension. He was fined the maximum $5000 in 2022 for cross-checking Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin.
