Los Angeles News & Notes:

Coming off a 6-5 shootout win over the Vegas Golden Knights, the Los Angeles Kings are in a position to capitalize on a Jets team that is coming off a loss at their home opener. Former Manitoba Moose forward Jeff Malott will return to an arena that he’s familiar with, as he has proven himself a significant bottom-six forward for the Kings.

Winnipeg Jets News & Notes:

After suffering a 5-4 loss against the Dallas Stars in their home opener, the Winnipeg Jets will be looking to make some noise as they advance through their season. David Gustafsson has just cleared waivers, and Jonathan Toews played in his first NHL game in over 910 days, marking a unique time for the team as Nikita Chibrikov, Brad Lambert, and Parker Ford are all still up with the Jets.

Players To Watch:

Los Angeles

Kevin Fiala has always been a quietly good player throughout his NHL career. If he’s a guy that Winnipeg has a hard time containing, he could be a problem early on in the season.

Andrei Kuzmenko is a player who can be a deciding factor, but it all depends. If he can crank it up, Kuzmenko is a massive asset to the Kings, but if he falls flat, he doesn’t provide much.

Winnipeg Jets

Jonathan Toews makes his second appearance in an NHL uniform, and one has to wonder if shaking off the rust and getting rid of the butterflies makes him play better at Canada Life Centre.

Haydn Fleury was more than serviceable in the 2025 postseason, and now opportunity knocks on his door. He’s in a position to cement himself as a player who was overlooked too many time,s and the right team took a chance on him when necessary.

Next game

Winnipeg Jets – October 13 at New York Islanders
