The New York Rangers (1-1-0) visit the Pittsburgh Penguins (2-0-0) Saturday night at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Rangers vs. Penguins odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.
Season series: Penguins lead 1-0
After being shut out in their first game, New York bounced back with a 4-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres Thursday while covering as a -113 road favorite, with the Under of 6 hitting. 4 different Rangers players scored while RW Alexis Lafreniere and C J.T. Miller each notched a goal and an assist in the win. One cause for concern, though, is they may have lost top-line C Vincent Trocheck to an upper-body injury.
Pittsburgh enters undefeated after taking care of the New York Islanders 4-3 Thursday while covering as a +109 home underdog with the Over of 6 hitting. C Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist, while C Evgeni Malkin accounted for 3 assists in the home opener. They continue to play without 31-goal scorer Bryan Rust (lower body).

Igor Shesterkin (1-1-0, 0.50 GAA, .985 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Arturs Silovs (1-0-0, 0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%, 1 SO)
Shesterkin stopped all 37 saves in the 4-0 shutout of Buffalo Thursday. That came on the heels of stopping 28 of the 29 he saw against Pittsburgh Tuesday. The Pens got a couple of empty-netters to make it look more decisive at 3-0, but he was good between the pipes. Shesterkin isn’t confirmed, and the team could opt for Jonathan Quick here since it would be 3 starts in essentially 4 days.
Silovs posted his first shutout of the season in his only start, coming against the Rangers to open the season; he saved each of the 25 shots sent his way. The Penguins have tested out Silovs and Tristan Jarry in net already this season, with Silovs being the projected starter Saturday.

Rangers at Penguins picks and predictionsPrediction
Penguins 3, Rangers 2
BET PENGUINS (+115).
The Penguins remain undefeated after a tough, come-from-behind win Thursday and will be playing on their home ice, where they went 21-15-5 last season. The Rangers’ offense came alive in their first win of the season, but in an early rematch, the Penguins have great value as the underdog.
PASS.
There is better value on the Penguins to win outright.
BET UNDER 6 (-105).
The Rangers have hit the Under in both games thus far, with the offense finding more success than it did in their first game against the Penguins. Shesterkin has allowed just 1 goal this season, stopping 65 of 66 total shots this season.
While Silovs has just 1 game this season, he looked outstanding in his opener against the Penguins. A shutout may not be likely again, but it bodes well for the Under. The Penguins have scored 4 or fewer goals in both games this season.
