Vincent Trochek picked up an assist on Lafreniere’s goal before leaving the game with an upper-body injury.

Evgeni Malkin notched three assists, including setting up Justin Brazeau’s third goal of the season at 14:21 of the third period as the Penguins beat the visiting New York Islanders 4-3 on Thursday night. Richard Rakell, Harrison Brunicke and captain Sidney Crosby each scored their first goals of the season in the victory and Tristan Jarry made 34 saves in his first start of the new campaign. The 39-year-old Malkin has five assists in Pittsburgh’s first two games.
