Nick Suzuki Sends a Candid Message After Canadiens Grind Out Win in Chicago

After the Montreal Canadiens’ victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, captain Nick Suzuki had a lot to say – and didn’t seem particularly thrilled.
When asked about the team’s numerous power plays – ten in total (one shy of the franchise record) – Suzuki didn’t hesitate to point out what needs to change.
“I think we need to work a lot on our power play. We still have a lot to learn about it. We need to get things organized there.” – Nick Suzuki
An honest answer. I like seeing that the veterans always want more.
“We were able to learn a lot from our power play because we got to practice it a lot tonight,” he added with a smile.

A fair critique of the power play, but also some praise for Zachary Bolduc.
Despite his self-criticism, the captain didn’t forget to congratulate one player in particular. Indeed, he mentioned Zachary Bolduc, once again excellent against Chicago.
The young forward scored a goal and added an assist – another example yesterday confirming his excellent start to the season.
“There was a bit of physical play, but the guys stand up for each other and we’re playing with intensity,” added Suzuki
For his part, according to Martin St-Louis, the main challenge was maintaining rhythm in a game where some players saw little ice time:
“There were several power plays in the first period, but we didn’t execute well. It was hard to keep up the pace.” – Martin St-Louis
I think this transparency from the captain is an excellent thing. It sets an example and reminds everyone that the Canadiens’ success will depend on greater consistency.
