LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A goaltender for the Vegas Golden Knights faced the new all-time scoring leader without allowing him to net a goal. Now, he’s rewarded for being part of rare company.
Akira Schmid recently received his commemorative Budweiser Zero can. It’s part of a promotion to celebrate netminders who have never surrendered a goal to Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin.
Ovechkin collected his 895th regular-season goal on Sunday, passing Wayne Gretzky for most regular-season goals in NHL history.
Budweiser Canada announced it would send special cans to 28 goaltenders who never gave up a goal to Ovechkin. That includes Schmid, who has stopped all eight of the Great 8’s shots in four games.

The Golden Knights shared a picture Friday of Schmid with his can, which notes the eight shots and zero goals, and a note celebrating his achievement.
“Congrats on earning your place in history as a king of zero, a feat most can only dream of,” the note reads.
Schmid has appeared in four games so far this season for Vegas. He has a record of 1-0-1 with a .945 save percentage, making 69 saves on 73 shots.
