Many were concerned about how the Red Wings were going to look this season after getting trounced in their home opener last week against the Montreal Canadiens. However, the team has instilled some belief in Hockeytown following back-to-back victories over an Original Six rival, the Toronto Maple Leafs, earlier this week. While there still is a lot of hockey to be played, a couple of wins this early in the season has seemingly renewed some optimism in Detroit.
The team will be taking on a Lightning team that is still a competitive bunch, though it is not like the Tampa squads that were Stanley Cup contenders a few years ago. Yet, with names like Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman, the Bolts are still expected to be a postseason team.
This is the second of three straight home games for the Red Wings, who host the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night. Detroit wraps up the homestand on Sunday afternoon against the Edmonton Oilers.
