Erik Johnson’s new role is a perfect fit. Also, we have two significant goalie injuries around the league and the New York Rangers have grabbed a new home record that they wish they could erase from their memory

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — October 15.

Colorado Hockey Now

It’s been nice for the Avalanche to get this kind of time away after a rather busy opening week. Colorado went out on the road twice in the first week, both to L.A. and then to Buffalo, sandwiched in between two home games.

The Sabres game was also an extremely quick turnaround. The guys completed the shootout loss late on Saturday, boarded an early flight Monday, and had an early wake-up call Monday for a 12:30 pm ET puck drop.

Now? They’re in the middle of more than 72 hours between games and have ample time to work on the things they didn’t like from a successful 3-0-1 start.

While they were off on Tuesday, it was announced that Erik Johnson is on his way to ESPN for a new gig that he’s very well suited for.

I genuinely can’t wait to see how he does in this role.

Around The NHL

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils called up Nico Daws from the AHL and suddenly Jacob Markstrom’s health is becoming a major topic of discussion.

Vegas Hockey Now: Adin Hill left the game early in the first period on Tuesday, and the Golden Knights might have to rely on Akira Schmid for a little while. They’re rumored to still be interested in signing Carter Hart, but he can’t play until Dec. 1 anyway.

Florida Hockey Now: This latest NY Rangers record, which they took away from the Florida Panthers, is one of the weirdest stretches of hockey I’ve seen.

New York is 2-3-0 in its first five games of the year. They have 10 goals for and just seven against. But when you dig a little deeper, you’ll notice a crazy difference between their home and road splits.

Montreal Hockey Now: Ivan Demidov stole the show in Habs home opener.

San Jose Hockey Now: Hurricanes remain undefeated, and the Sharks fall in the debut of Michael Misa.

Philly Hockey Now: Sean Couturier is off to a great start for the Flyers.
