Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk is in New York City Wednesday receiving a second opinion on whether surgery is necessary on his right arm injury, team owner Michael Andlauer said.

The team should know whether surgery is required by Thursday.

Head coach Travis Green said Tuesday Tkachuk was was expected to miss at least four weeks with the injury, which is believed to be to his wrist or hand.

Senators owner Micheal Andlauer, here in NYC at Board of Governors meeting, was asked for an update on Brady Tkachuk: says the Sens captain is here in NYC today getting a second opinion on his injury and should know tomorrow whether surgery is required.

“It’s unfortunate. You never want to lose a player. You never want to lose a player of his stature,” Green told the media on Tuesday. “That’s part of the game. We’re not going to sit and dwell on it. Like anyone else who gets hurt, you move on and you move on quickly. Brady will be around our team and be the captain that he is, but he won’t be playing.”

Tkachuk sustained the injury in the team’s 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Monday. It occurred when Tkachuk was cross checked into the boards in the first period.

Tkachuk, 26, has three points through three games this season. His 29 goals a season ago led all skaters on the Senators, and he has scored at least 29 goals in four consecutive seasons.

Tkachuk is in his eighth season with the Senators after being selected fourth overall by Ottawa in the 2018 NHL Draft.

The news is a bad break for the Senators, who have been blown out twice in three games in the young season and are tied for the second-worst goal differential (minus-6) in the league. They’ll now be without one of their top forwards for around a month.

Ottawa will take on the winless Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday, with Michael Amadio moving up to take Tkachuk’s spot on a top line with Tim Stutzle and Fabian Zetterlund.
