Days after beginning the season with a new name, the Utah Mammoth now have a matching mascot.

“Tusky,” a 6-foot-5 blue woolly mammoth, was unveiled Wednesday evening before the Mammoth’s home opener against the Calgary Flames. The organization says the mascot is a nod to “Utah’s prehistoric past,” as mammoth herds once roamed the grounds of Utah over 10,000 years ago.

“We named the Utah Mammoth mascot Tusky to lean into our team’s ‘Tusks up’ rallying cry,” Mammoth co-owners Ryan and Ashley Smith said in a statement. “Tusky is going to be a big part of our community, creating memorable experiences in and out of the arena. Fans can expect to see Tusky everywhere — from Mammoth games and team events to community gatherings, schools and hospitals. We are excited for fans to get to know Tusky this season.”

The Mammoth are playing through their second NHL season since the Arizona Coyotes franchise moved to Utah ahead of the 2024-25 NHL season. Utah played its inaugural season as the Utah Hockey Club. The team got its name following a fan vote resulting in more than 850,000 ballots back in May.
