It appears Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk could be sidelined twice as long as initially expected.
Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports that it appears likely Tkachuk will undergo surgery for an upper-body injury, which, as league executives told him, could sideline him for eight weeks.
Tkachuk was in New York City Wednesday receiving a second opinion on whether surgery is necessary on his right arm injury, team owner Michael Andlauer said. An update is expected later on Thursday.
Would expect an update on Brady Tkachuk today and would be more surprised if he doesn’t have surgery. League executives have told me timeline is likely eight weeks if that’s the case #Sens https://t.co/CCJ1Y0PGiY

Head coach Travis Green, who did not have an update as of Thursday at Noon ET, said Tuesday Tkachuk was expected to miss at least four weeks with the injury, which is believed to be to his wrist or hand.
“It’s unfortunate. You never want to lose a player. You never want to lose a player of his stature,” Green told the media on Tuesday. “That’s part of the game. We’re not going to sit and dwell on it. Like anyone else who gets hurt, you move on and you move on quickly. Brady will be around our team and be the captain that he is, but he won’t be playing.”
Tkachuk sustained the injury in the team’s 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Monday. It occurred when Tkachuk was cross checked into the boards in the first period.
Tkachuk, 26, has three points through three games this season. His 29 goals a season ago led all skaters on the Senators, and he has scored at least 29 goals in four consecutive seasons.
Tkachuk is in his eighth season with the Senators after being selected fourth overall by Ottawa in the 2018 NHL Draft.
The news is a bad break for the Senators, who are 1-3-0 on the season after an 8-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. Ottawa will host the Seattle Kraken on Thursday.
