The former Buffalo News building in downtown Buffalo will soon be home to a year-round business program.

The goal is to build the next generation of entrepreneurs who will make an impact in Western New York.

The Golisano Institute, founded by the former owner of the Buffalo Sabres, Tom Golisano, is meant to be affordable to the average student.

Students graduate with a certificate in business and entrepreneurship after the two-year program.

“If Tom were here, he would say one of the reasons he founded the Institute is the value of time,” said Golisano Institute President Ian Mortimer. “His belief system from when this was founded is that for many students, four years is too long. They want to get out, work, hustle, and make an impact on the community.”

Current Sabres owner Terry Pegula has announced plans to endow 10 scholarships to the Institute.
