LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Vegas Golden Knights announced they’ve signed a goaltender who was implicated and later acquitted in the Hockey Canada sexual assault scandal.
Carter Hart will join the organization after his reinstatement became official this week, allowing him to sign with an NHL team.
“The Golden Knights are aligned with the process and assessment the NHL and NHLPA made in their decision,” the team said in a statement. “We remain committed to the core values that have defined our organization from its inception and expect that our players will continue to meet these standards moving forward.”
Hart was drafted by Philadelphia in 2016 and played for the Flyers for six seasons. He was placed on an indefinite leave of absence in January last year, and it was later reported that Hockey Canada paid a settlement to a woman who alleged she was assaulted by members of the national junior team in 2018.
Criminal charges were filed against Hart and four others from the team over the allegation. They pleaded not guilty, and a judge found all five not guilty through acquittal after a two-month trial earlier this year.
Hart will be eligible to play in NHL games on Dec. 1.
