NOTRE DAME — A new era begins tonight on the ice.

Brock Sheahan took over the Notre Dame hockey program this spring, replacing Jeff Jackson after twenty seasons.

Sheahan is just the 5th head coach in program history, and tonight, he earned his first win in his first home game, as Notre Dame skated past Saint Lawrence 8-2.

The Irish got behind quickly, surrendering a pair of goals in the first four minutes of the game on the first two shots. From that point on however, the Irish dominated the game.

Assistant captain Cole Knuble scored at the 4:41 mark of the first period to send the Irish into the first intermission down 2-1.

Notre Dame tied the game late in the 2nd period when Evan Werner scored, and that opened the flood gates. Notre Dame would add three more goals in the closing three minutes of the period to take control. Captain Danny Nelson, Axel Kumlin and Sutter Muzzatti scored the goals t send Notre Dame into the locker room with a 5-2 lead.

The Irish added three more tallies on the closing period for an 8-2 win, the first of Brock Sheahan’s career as head coach at Notre Dame.
