CHN Staff Report
Penn State’s Charlie Cerrato, currently the nation’s leading scorer, was among the five players added to the U.S. College Select team roster for the Spengler Cup. The tournament, in Davos, Switzerland, will take place Dec. 26-31.
Michigan forward TJ Hughes, Notre Dame forwards Danny Nelson and Cole Knuble, and Denver defenseman Eric Pohlkamp were also added.
The team will be made up of current college players who are at least sophomores. The plan is to roll out a roster announcement in pieces. So far 10 have been named. In addition to these five, the others are Penn State forward Aiden Fink, North Dakota defenseman Jake Livanavage, Minnesota State goalie Alex Tracy, Connecticut forward Joey Muldowney, and Penn State defenseman Mac Gadowsky was also added.
College hockey was invited by Spengler Cup organizers to bring a team this year, for the first time in decades. The team is led by Penn State’s Guy Gadowsky.
A few other top players will not be available because of their participation in the World Junior tournament, which happens at around the same time.
