As Sebastian Cossa, 22, and Michal Postava, 23, compete for playing time with the Grand Rapids Griffins, don’t forget to factor Michigan State’s Trey Augustine into your prospect rankings.

While Cossa was winning his second game with the Griffins’ 5-2 triumph against Manitoba, Augustine was making 18 saves to help the Spartans knock off No. 1-ranked Boston University, 4-2.

Two months ago, the Daily Faceoff had Augustine ranked No. 3 and Cossa ranked No. 6 among prospect goalies. Meanwhile, Postava, nine months older than Cossa, looks very much like he’s in the mix. He reached the Czechia Finals last season.

In the early going, Augustine,, 20, is 2-1 with a 2.00 GAA. This is important because Cam Talbot is 38, and Gibson is 32. Of course, Augustine’s ability to challenge for Detroit pre-supposes that he will sign with Detroit next spread. If he decides to return to Michigan State for his senior year, then it would suggest he will test his free agency in the summer of 2027.

The Grand Rapids Griffins raised their record to 3-0 with a 5-2 win against the Manitoba Moose. Dominik Shine had a pair of goals, while Detroit prospect Carter Mazur scored his fourth of the season. Red Wings draft pick Amadeus Lombardi picked up his fourth assist of the season. Alexandre Doucet also scored for Grand Rapids. Sebastian Cossa made 21 saves for the win.
