1. Chesterfield Police want public reporting sales tag swappers
Police ask shoppers to tell local authorities if they witness another customer swap the price tags on merchandise before putting the item in their cart.
2. Metro East cities reimplementing 1% grocery tax
Ill. Gov. JB Pritzker signed legislation eliminating the statewide 1% grocery tax last year but the law also permitted municipalities and counties to establish its own grocery tax. Half of the municipalities in Illinois already adopted ordinances to establish the tax, including 65 Metro East communities, per Illinois Municipal League (IML).
3. National Democrats say they’re still recruiting for the race against Rep. Ann Wagner
At an event in April featuring Connecticut U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy in Chesterfield, Fred Wellman served as the emcee for the afternoon.
“I am not the star of the show by any means,” he said as he introduced Murphy, an outspoken critic of the Trump administration, as well as state senators Doug Beck, Tracy McCreery and others who were calling out Rep. Ann Wagner, over her lack of town hall meetings and policies of the GOP majority in Congress.
4. SLPS Board of Education updates tornado recovery progress
Dr. Millicent Borishade, Saint Louis Public Schools (SLPS) superintendent, said members of the Board of Education and herself recently visited damaged schools that closed after the tornado.
5. I-44 westbound closed at I-270 this weekend
For the second time, a multi-day closure is planned for two ramps and all westbound lanes on I-44 later this weekend. The ramp from northbound I-270 to westbound I-44 and the ramp from Watson Road to westbound I-44 will be closed so Missouri Department of Transportation can complete repairs to the above I-270 bridge.
6. State rep pushes for road changes after teen dies in I-70 crash
State Rep. Tricia Byrnes, District 63, is asking for changes along I-70 near Wentzville Parkway after a Belleville teen driver died there.A crash report by Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said the 17-year-old male driving a 93’ Dodge Stealth lost control, hit an eastbound car, crossed through the cable barrier and was hit by a westbound semi-truck. St. Charles County fire personnel pronounced the driver of the Stealth dead at 11:42 a.m. The other two drivers were not included in the injury information..
7. ‘We want people over profit’; St. Louis residents voice opposition to proposed Midtown data center
Many St. Louis residents Monday night overwhelmingly expressed opposition to the proposed data center in Midtown during another town hall meeting. A presentation by Cecilia Dvorak with the consulting firm SteadFast City discussed site plans and provisions for the location at 500 Prospect Avenue, the property next to the Armory.
8. Collinsville WWII veteran receives Congressional Gold Medal
Family and friends gathered to see Betty Wrigley receive a Congressional Gold Medal for her service as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II.
9. St. Louis Blues announce new sports betting partnership with Underdog
Blues fans looking to hit their own hat-trick with a sports betting parlay will place their sports bets in the stadium through Underdog. The St. Louis Blues announced a multiyear marketing partnership with Underdog to create an experience for Blues fans during both home and away games, and supplemental marketing collaborations throughout the National Hockey League season.
10. St. Louis Lambert breaks ground on $114 million maintenance, deicing project
Officials here marked the ceremonial start of projects at St. Louis Lambert International Airport that are independent of plans to construct a single consolidated terminal in the coming years, but that will play a critical role in operations at the complex for decades to come.
