After a rough finish for Samuel Montembeault vs. the Rangers, Martin St-Louis will start young goaltender Jakub Dobes against the Buffalo Sabres at Bell Centre.

Canadiens fans and even some analysts had already sparked the debate since Saturday night.

After a third questionable (to say the least weak) goal allowed by Montembeault against the Rangers, many were calling for a change in the Canadiens’ net, and the message seems to have been heard.

It was Stu Cowan who broke the news:

“Looks like Jakub Dobes will start in goal for Habs tonight vs. Sabres”

Young Jakub Dobes will therefore be the starting goalie tonight to finish the Canadiens’ four-game home stretch.

“I’m gonna take most of the blame. I have to be better… The guys are working hard & playing well on both sides of puck. It’s on me to make the saves.”

– Samuel Montembeault

I think this kind of honesty is appreciated, but St-Louis still wants to see Dobes take advantage of the opportunity.

Martin St-Louis Gives the Net to Jakub Dobes for the Game Against Buffalo

I find that the 24-year-old goaltender already shows a lot of composure in his starts so far.

Personally, I truly believe this is a good decision. Giving a start to Dobes allows Montembeault to catch a breather while rewarding the young goalie’s work. The classic no brainer for Martin St-Louis.

I sincerely believe this game comes at the perfect time to recharge the group before the upcoming road stretch.
