The comments made by goaltender Anthony Stolarz after the Toronto Maple Leafs’ overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken Saturday appear to be water under the bridge, at least according to the team.
Captain Auston Matthews, head coach Craig Berube, forward William Nylander and Stolarz all talked out the goaltender’s criticism of Nylander, players told the media Monday.
“We’re a veteran group. We’re all big boys. You don’t need to beat around the bush. It’s an easy conversation we all had and you just move on, close the door … We gotta be better and we will be,” Matthews said via TSN’s Mark Masters.
“It’s frustration, we all prefer it stay in the room, but it happens, but we’ve moved on from it,” Berube said via David Alter of The Hockey News.

The Leafs and Kraken were deadlocked 3-3 in the extra frame Saturday when Joshua Mahura worked a give-and-go along the right side and beat Nylander – who was ahead of him – to the net for the OT winner.
Stolarz told reporters after the game Nylander “can’t let someone beat you up the ice there and get a clear-cut breakaway.”
This comes after Berube said the team needed “more out of him” referring to Nylander earlier in the week.
Nylander himself downplayed the ordeal with his goaltender on Monday.
“It’s all good. Look, we’re teammates. He’s a great guy. There’s nothing that we need to, you know, talk about here. Yeah, he talked to me after and it’s all good. It’s been no issue since,” he said via Masters.

The 29-year-old forward has a team-high 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in six games this season as the Leafs sit 3-2-1 on the season through the first week and a half.
Stolarz is 2-2-1 with an .897 save percentage and a 2.79 goals-against average.
Toronto will be back in action Tuesday at home against the New Jersey Devils.
