Mackenzie Blackwood won’t travel with the Avalanche on Monday for their road game Tuesday against the Utah Mammoth.

The Avs are playing just one game away from home before returning to Ball Arena Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes. At Delta Center, Scott Wedgewood and Trent Miner will man the crease, with Wedgewood more than likely making his seventh consecutive start to the regular season.

Blackwood was one of two goalies at Monday’s practice before their flight. Miner, who was a participant earlier in the skate, ended up leaving the ice to allow Blackwood to handle one of the two nets with Wedgewood.

After the game, head coach Jared Bednar said Blackwood is getting close, but he won’t be active Tuesday.

Blackwood has not played or backed up in any game yet this season. When training camp began just over a month ago, Blackwood was one of three offseason injuries that were not full participants in team skates.

He’s continued to make progress since then, but has not yet been reactivated to backup for Wedgewood or start games.
