The Leafs have been extremely quiet when it comes to Scott Laughton‘s injury and recovery time, but TSN’s Darren Dreger has revealed his expected return date.Scott Laughton looked like he was going to have a very productive season offensively for the Leafs after finding instant chemistry with Steven Lorentz and Easton Cowan during a handful of pre-season games.

The Leafs did not clarify the extent of the injury, but deemed the 31-year-old out ‘week-to-week’, with many suspecting that he has been dealing with a broken foot.

When Leafs GM Brad Treliving spoke to reporters ahead of the Leafs’ opening game against the Montreal Canadiens, he was tight-lipped only suggesting the team would know more in ‘a week or two’.

Lack of Update Cause For Concern on Scott Laughton’s Injury?

That was October 7th, and it is now October 20th, and the Leafs have yet to provide an update on the former Philadelphia Flyer. The lack of updates has led many to speculate that Laughton’s injury may be more severe than initially thought.

Laughton’s absence forced head coach Craig Berube to completely pivot on his plan for the Leafs’ bottom six forward group, and the rest of his lineup following Saturday’s loss.

Scott Laughton’s Return Date Revealed

TSN’s Darren Dreger made an appearance on ‘First Up’ on Monday morning where he discussed the Leafs’ forward group and how Treliving has been attempting to acquire another top-six forward dating back to early in the summer.

In discussing how the Leafs may choose to deploy their forwards, Dreger touched on Laughton’s likely return date, before revealing when the Leafs expect him back.

“I believe he’s penciled in for the first of November,” Dreger revealed

Injured on September 27th, Laughton’s reported return date would be just over five weeks after his injury, which would fall in line with the typical recovery time of a broken bone in the foot, so long as everything goes according to plan.

When he returns, as Dreger suggested, it will be interesting to see how Berube chooses to use him and how it allows the Leafs’ bench boss to reconfigure his lineup.
