The Carolina Hurricanes will not go undefeated as they lost for the first time this season, 4-1 to the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Monday night.

The Canes fell behind 2-0 in the opening period and could not pull even the rest of the evening.

Frederik Andersen had an excellent night but will pick up the loss for his efforts. The goalie stopped several grade A chances including one glove save which seemed like a sure goal.

The Canes were playing without the service of Jaccob Slavin and Shayne Gostisbehere.

Vegas was without Mark Stone.

Jack Eichel opened the scoring midway through the first period when his pass was deflected into the net by K’Andre Miller, who was trying to block the pass.

Shortly after that, Pavel Dorofeyev scored his 7th of the season to make it, 2-0.

Sebastian Aho would make it 2-1 four minutes and change into the second, but the Canes would not get any closer the rest of the way.

The Carolina penalty kill performed very well and kept one of the top powerplay units off the board, (0-4).

On the other hand, their powerplay was totally ineffective, (0-4). At one point, Adam Gold called them the “Keystone Cops” on “X”.

The team will take some time off and will continue on their road trip with a visit to Colorado on Thursday night.
