The Chicago Bears used an overpowering rushing attack and a defense that caused four turnovers to extend their winning streak to four games.

The Bears rushed for 222 yards and forced New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler to commit four turnovers in a 26-14 victory at Soldier Field.

The hope is that this season does not unravel like it did last year when the team got off to a similar 4-2 start. It is hard to see this year’s club losing 10 straight games like last season. Ben Johnson has already proven in his first six games that he is a far superior head coach than Matt Eberflus.

The passing game must get better if the Chicago Bears are going to continue this win streak. Chicago managed just 164 yards through the air.

Thankfully, the Bears had a victory that felt like something out of the Lovie Smith era to make up for a weak passing attack.

Stock Up

D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai

The running backs provided all the offense the Chicago Bears needed against an overmatched Saints’ rush defense.

Swift had his best overall game with the Bears last Monday against Washington. His encore on Sunday was arguably his best rushing game in Chicago. Swift gained 124 yards on 19 carries along with a touchdown.

Monangai provided a nice complementary performance. The rookie gained 81 yards on 13 carries and scored his first career touchdown.

The offensive line deserves a lot of credit for opening up holes all day. Center Drew Dalman had three poor snaps, but otherwise, the offensive line had a nice day.

Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen

He got his revenge against the franchise that fired him as its head coach last season. Allen had a great game plan that harassed Rattler all day.

Wide Receiver Chris Olave was the only Saints’ offensive player who had a good game with two touchdowns, and he beat Tyrique Stevenson for a 57-yard gain.

Otherwise, the pass rush generated four sacks and seven tackles for losses. The Saints had just 44 yards rushing. The Bears had four turnovers, but easily could have had more with how well the secondary and linebackers were swarming to the ball.

Tremaine Edmunds

The linebacker has played much better ever since his partner, T.J. Edwards, returned from an injury. With Edwards focusing on lining up the defense, Edmunds has been free to make plays in Allen’s defense.

He made a bunch against the Saints.

Edmunds racked up nine tackles, one sack, one interception, and one tackle for a loss.

Montez Sweat

Finally, Sweat had a game where he made a huge impact. He had a strip-sack fumble on the Saints’ first possession of the game.

Sweat also had two tackles for losses and two quarterback hits. He has been playing well the past three games and is starting to disrupt games like he did in 2023.

Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon

Nahshon Wright and Kevin Byard III had the interceptions for the secondary. Both got burned badly on Olave’s second touchdown.

Brisker and Gordon helped limit the rest of the Saints’ passing attack. They also pitched in on the pass rush, as each had a sack and a tackle for a loss.

Stock Down

Caleb Williams

He had one of his worst games as the Chicago Bears’ starting quarterback. Williams completed just 15 of his 26 pass attempts for 172 yards. He also had a terrible interception early in the game.

Williams fumbled three snaps, although two of them were because Dalman never let go of the ball.

He looked tentative and was inaccurate on most of his throws. Williams played like a game-managing quarterback.

He made just enough throws to extend drives and protected the ball outside of one bad pass. However, Williams was not drafted No. 1 overall to be the second coming of Kyle Orton.

This was a game where Williams should have thrown for four touchdowns and 300 yards. Instead, he looked like a less talented Josh McCown.

The good thing is, we have seen Caleb play better. He did play well facing the Saints’ blitz. Williams is also aware he must get better. I also just feel like it is a matter of doing the little things better, and he will take off.

It is getting hard to stay patient waiting for his career to launch into the superstar stratosphere.
