Would ya stop? Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has said no. The day may come when he changes his mind and the hockey universe, including his current home base, would support him, but the Montreal media is again drumming the NHL trade rumors for a Crosby to Canadiens deal. Elsewhere in the Daily, Crosby is shaking off his slow start and talked about that beaut of a goal Saturday. Brad Marchand will make an emotional return to his former hockey home in Boston, the Buffalo Sabres could turn to Pete DeBoer behind the bench, and more goalie trouble in Vegas.

The Daily is a touch late today because, as I watched the Blue Jays’ celebration last night, I realized I had not yet booked my Toronto hotel for a few weeks. Lucky me, Game 7 is scheduled for the night before the Penguins game, which means I won’t be staying downtown. Even my little jazz club hovel with a tiny bed and a metal chair is booked solid for the two-night affair.

So, I scrambled this morning to complete my travel plans. That always takes me an hour longer than it should. Do I spend the extra $100 and stay in a nicer place? Can I find a happy medium?

I almost booked a hotel with a 7.0 rating…until I read the reviews. They’ve converted it to a homeless shelter, but are still taking public bookings on Hotels.com?! My frustration with current government policies, which I believe are exacerbating the problem and not helping it, aside, I choose not to stay there.

Whew. So, let’s get to it.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Shells had practice coverage on Monday. You know what’s more fun than Crosby trade rumors? Watching Crosby play. As Shelly notes, Crosby has shed the slow start, is over a point per game, and is again looking like…Sidney Crosby.

Sportsnet video: OK, OK. It’s the biggest hockey outlet on the planet, so it would be silly to ignore when they spend an entire segment with some of the best reporters in the business talking about the possibility. Rene Lavoie laid out what Montreal would have to give up in a Crosby trade.

Steelers Now: Aaron Rodgers, despite the 70-yard Hail Mary attempt, is set to retire after this season. That means the Steelers need a quarterback, and Alan Saunders reports the Steelers have been scouting a fast-rising QB from out west. Here’s the Steelers news.

NHL Rumors, News, & National Hockey Now

NHLtraderumors.me: The Buffalo Sabres are doing internal reviews. They’ve missed the playoffs for 14 straight years, and players are not happy. Elliotte Friedman reported the possibility that Pete DeBoer takes over as coach.

Florida Hockey Now: Tonight is the night. Everyone has been waiting for it, including the player. The Florida Panthers visit the Boston Bruins, which means an emotional homecoming for Brad Marchand.

Vegas Hockey Now: Uh oh, more bad news for the VGK. They lost Mark Stone for weeks with a wrist injury, and now, goalie Adin Hill left another game with an injury. Here are the important deets as the Carolina Hurricanes were no match for the Vegas Golden Knights.

I can’t help but wonder if the Penguins and Vegas are a trade match.

Forever Blueshirts: Ohhh, Mike Sullivan was mad. The Blue Shirts finally scored a goal at home. They finally had a chance to win at MSG. They were swarming. And then…they allowed a third period goal and lost. Womp womp. More bad news for the New York Rangers.

Philly Hockey Now: Culture. Coach Rick Tocchet is bringing it back to the orange and black. The Flyers beat the Seattle Kraken 5-2 at the Spectrum, er, Xfinity Mobile Arena, but it was how they did it. The gloves came off, and the fight started. And Will James writes that the Philadelphia Flyers‘ culture is back.
