After a long process of teases and Easter eggs from the Colorado Avalanche, the franchise finally unveiled the full throwback uniform that they’ll be wearing this season, an homage to the Quebec Nordiques. The team released a picture of the helmet, then the pants, and now finally completed the look with a full royal blue set that fans should be clamoring for.

For the newer Avalanche fans, the franchise spent nearly two decades up in Quebec as the Nordiques from 1979-1995 before moving to Denver and rebranding as the Avalanche. In 16 seasons, the team finished in first place in the division twice and made the playoffs nine times. The farthest they went was the Conference Finals, where they were swept by the Islanders in 1982 and bowed out to the Flyers in six games in 1985. Some of the greatest players in franchise history were there in the Quebec days, such as Peter Stastny, Peter Forsberg and Joe Sakic.

There is no Avalanche without the Nordiques.

The 2025-26 season is the 30th year for the franchise in Denver, and it’s all about appreciating the legacy of the franchise, not just in Colorado. The team released a video that showed Joe Sakic, the former longtime captain, and Gabriel Landeskog, the current longtime captain, both sporting the look.

HOW OFTEN WILL AVALANCHE FANS SEE THE THROWBACKS?

The jerseys are cool, of course, but when can Avs fans see them in action on the ice and not just hanging up in the team store? Lucky for the fans, the debut is coming this week, as Thursday’s contest against the Carolina Hurricanes will be the debut. In total, the team will wear these sweaters in seven games this season.

Something cool to note is that in the two games against Carolina, the schedule hints that the Canes will be wearing their own throwback sweaters, representing the Hartford Whalers in the white and green.

For fans of both the Broncos and Avs, this has been an exciting week. The Broncos announced on Monday that they will be wearing their 1977 throwbacks — some of the best threads in the NFL — three different times this season. Now, the Broncos’ neighbors across I-25 are following suit.
