How to nominate and vote for Salisbury Daily Times Athlete of the Week

This week officially marks the beginning of the postseason for Bayside Conference soccer and field hockey teams, as regional playoffs get underway in the MPSSAA. But before those playoff games kick off, Bayside champions are set to be decided in those sports as well.

The Stephen Decatur Seahawks have been crowned as champions of the Bayside South in field hockey and both boys and girls soccer, knocking off rivals like Bennett and Pocomoke in each respective sport. And now they’ll compete for the Bayside Conference title in all three sports against the top teams from the Bayside North.

Here are previews of this week’s soccer and field hockey Bayside Conference championship games:

Oct. 20 | 5 p.m. | Kent Island

After a stellar regular season campaign, the girls soccer team at Stephen Decatur are the 2025 Bayside South Champions in 2025. The Bayside has recently belonged to their rivals, the James M. Bennett Clippers, who came into this season as winners of three consecutive conference titles. But when these two teams faced off in a decisive late season game on Bennett’s home field. the Seahawks won 1-0 in overtime courtesy of a game-winning goal by Luca Russo.

For the first time in four years, a new Bayside South champion will be crowned in Bayside South girls soccer, and these Decatur Seahawks will hope they will be the ones walking away with the victory and the title. But they’ll face a tough task against one of the few teams that has beaten them this season.

Decatur is set to face an undefeated Queen Anne’s team that returns to the Bayside title game after losing to Bennett in the conference title game in each of the last three seasons. These two teams faced off very early in the season in September, with Queen Anne’s winning 1-0 on the road in Berlin. With a conference title on the line, another close battle between these two wouldn’t be a surprise for the fans watching at Kent Island on Monday afternoon.

Boys SoccerStephen Decatur vs Kent Island

Oct. 20 | 6: 45 p.m. | Kent Island

The boys soccer team for the Decatur Seahawks dominated the 2025 regular season, losing just once and conceding only three goals throughout their Bayside campaign. And for their efforts, they are back in the Bayside title game for the first time since 2022, when they won the conference championship.

After a late-season overtime loss to Bennett on the road, it came down to the wire on whether or not the Seahawks would make it back to conference title game. But after the game between Bennett and Parkside ended in a draw, Decatur defeated Pocomoke 4-0 to clinch the Bayside South.

With the conference championship on the line, the Seahawks now face Kent Island, who they defeated 5-0 when they faced each other earlier this year. Decatur will be looking to grab a similar result on Monday night, as they try to put a bow on what has been a great season in Berlin, and win their second Bayside title in four years.

Field HockeyStephen Decatur vs Kent Island

Oct. 21 | 5 p.m. | Queen Anne’s High School

The Stephen Decatur field hockey team is back in the Bayside title game for the second year in a row. And for the second year in a row, it was a late-season victory over Worcester County rivals Pocomoke that punched their ticket to the conference championship game.

Two goals from Maggie Tucker and additional goals from Bailey Griffin and Jill Burton gave Decatur the Bayside South title with a 4-1 victory last Thursday. Last year, they fell to Queen Anne’s in the Bayside championship game 3-0, and they’ll have another opportunity to bring the Bayside title back to Berlin on Tuesday.

This year their opponent will be the Kent Island Buccaneers, who also clinched a spot in the title game in their regular-season finale victory over Queen Anne’s. When these two teams faced off at Kent Island in early October, it was Kent Island that walked away with a 2-0 victory. It was one of just three losses on the season for a Decatur team that continues to be one of the best in the Bayside, and they’ll have the opportunity both for revenge, and to become the Bayside’s best team when they face the Buccaneers on Tuesday.
