Catch up on the latest Chicago Blackhawks news, including Nick Foligno’s return and Jonathan Toews’ new chapter with Winnipeg.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a rare break in the season. With the Winter Olympics in February 2026, this season’s schedule is tight. Outside of the Olympic break, there are only two times when there’s a three-day break. Let’s take a second to catch up on the news going on in the Blackhawks world.

Nick Foligno Returns

Captain Nick Foligno returned to practice with the Blackhawks on Oct. 20 after he took a leave of absence to spend time with his daughter while she underwent heart surgery. The surgery was successful, and his daughter is expected to make a healthy recovery. Foligno has two points through four games played.

Jonathan Toews Scores First Goal In Winnipeg

It’s hard to imagine Jonathan Toews in a sweater other than Chicago’s. But that’s reality. Toews scored his first goal with the Winnipeg Jets, his first since 2023. Toews has four points through six games and has a 40.08% Corsi,10th best on the team for players with over three games.

Rockford IceHogs Updates

The Rockford IceHogs are off to a strong start this year. They are in second place in the Central Division with four wins and one loss. Not bad. Here are a few updates regarding Blackhawks prospects.

Nick Lardis was named the AHL player of the week. Lardis has eight points through five games with the IceHogs. It’s possible that Lardis stays with Rockford unless he completely dominates. There were questions about whether he could replicate his outrageous scoring rate from the OHL (117 points in 65 games). Linemate Oliver Moore may make a case that he doesn’t belong in the AHL with four goals and six points in five games. Paul Ludwinski will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Drafted in the second round in 2022, Ludwinski is lower on the depth charts for Chicago. He has two points through two games.

Roman Kantserov

Blackhawks forward prospect Roman Kantserov leads the KHL in goals with 11. The 21-year-old has generated a lot of interest through his 18 games this season. Kantserov is expected to play with the Blackhawks following his final year in Russia.
