SALT LAKE CITY — Fans of the Utah Mammoth waited in line, some for hours, to get their new branded Mammoth jerseys ahead of Thursday’s preseason game.
The new jerseys featuring the Mammoth logo went on sale Thursday. Fans were ditching work, or attending virtual meetings while in line at the Delta Center to get theirs.
Andrew Herrin said he grew up enjoying the sport.
“But then we didn’t have a team,” Herrin said. “So as an adult, I really didn’t follow it too much except for the playoffs and the Olympics. And now they have a team! It’s inspired me and actually my friends to get skates and actually go play as well.”
He said he’s happy with the new jerseys and the logo. He thinks they fit well with the National Hockey League.
“It also encapsulates what Utah’s about with the mountains and obviously the mammoth history,” Herrin said. “So I think it’s really cool that the ownership did that for us, for the community.”

Mike Elifritz is a season ticket holder along with several of his friends. He said a big part of being a fan is being part of the community.
“I enjoy having the jersey,” Elifritz said. “Part of the reason I enjoy this whole experience is being with a group of people that are here to cheer for the same team. So having the gear to fit in kind of goes with that.”
Fans say they are most excited to see how new players work together and how far they’ll go as a team.
“Last year they were on the verge of making the playoffs, which kept the games relevant all season,” says Elifritz. “But we weren’t good enough to really be competing for the Stanley Cup championship, and so maybe if they can take the next step, then that will even add to the excitement.”
